We believe in a targeted preventative approach to reduce the need for dental treatment.
Diet & Lifestyle Advice
As part of your regular check-up, we’ll ask for an update on your diet and lifestyle. Healthy eating and minimising destructive habits are crucial in maintaining your teeth and gums in the long term. Reducing the frequency of snacks and sugar will help decrease your chances of developing tooth decay, and smoking and alcohol reduction will aid in the health of your soft tissues.
Oral Health Advice
A meticulous examination of your gums will help us detect any signs of early gum disease. To prevent gingivitis and premature tooth loss, we will provide oral health advice regarding brushing and hygiene.
Dental X-rays
We use low-dose digital x-rays to detect early signs of tooth decay that aren’t visible to the naked eye. These will be taken at least every two years. We also monitor bone levels to detect early signs of periodontitis.
Fluoride Varnish
Children tend to love this part of their check-up! As children grow, their exposure to fluoride and brushing habits are not as developed as adults. We apply a concentrated (sweet tasting) fluoride varnish on areas prone to childhood decay as a preventative measure.
Fissure Sealants
Molar teeth have small crevices on their biting surfaces (called fissures). When molar teeth have newly erupted, we use fissure sealants to protect the fissures from future decay.
